I've suffered crushing lower back pain for years. Three motions or behaviors hurt my back:
1. Standing
2. Sitting
3. Walking
So I changed my behavior for all 3:
When standing, I wear zero-drop shoes, such as the Merrell Barefoot Tough Glove in the office. {More formal minimalist shoes reviewed}
While walking, I wear zero-drop shoes, such as Vibram FiveFingers, and carry less weight, which was pulling on my shoulders and torquing my back. I'm a student, and the majority of weight owed to my 7 lb MacBook Pro
, which I replaced with the 2.3 lb MacBook Air
.
I minimize sitting, but when I must sit, I sit with good posture, fidget, and take frequent breaks.
These simple changes have allowed me to banish back pain.
Whenever I sit too long, sit with poor posture, or wear shoes with anything but zero-drop heels, I hurt, and the pain reminds me to modify my behavior.
